Autologous blood therapy for safe and faster wound healing

Platelet Rich Plasma for Anal fissure and Pilonidal cyst - proctology Berlin

Our blood consists of water, white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets.

In PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) therapy, a protein-rich concentrate is obtained from the blood platelets and injected into the corresponding part of the body using a special syringe.

The blood platelets contain numerous growth factors and cell messengers (cytokines) that serve cell renewal, whereby the PRP treatment gains its regenerative potential and the adjacent tissue is stimulated to grow.

Where can this form of therapy be used?

Indications for autologous blood therapy include orthopaedic conditions such as joint problems (arthrosis), tendonitis and accelerated treatment of bone fractures. These treatments have been practiced for years and are widely established.

In addition, autologous blood therapy is being used more and more in the treatment of chronic wound healing disorders and also as growth reinforcement in operations such as cruciate ligament plastic surgery and initially in pilonidal sinus or anal fissure operations.

A major advantage of the body's own tissue is that there are no side effects in terms of allergic reactions or inflammation.

We have been successfully using the PRP method to treat proctological diseases for over 14 years and therefore have a great deal of expertise in Germany.

“Autologous blood therapy can be used excellently during anal fissure surgery to achieve faster and optimal wound healing”

Advantages of treatment with autologous PRP

  • Minimally invasive therapy
  • Hardly any side effects, as autologous blood without additives
  • No local anesthesia
  • Outpatient treatment
  • Long-lasting effects
  • Short therapy times (10 minutes)

How does the autologous blood treatment work?

After the blood sample is taken, the so-called whole blood is immediately placed in a special tube in a centrifuge. No further processing is necessary. The centrifugal force separates the blood into three components. This happens due to the different specific weight.

The uppermost part consists of the part that is poor in blood cells and platelets, the plasma, which makes up approx. 55%. The white blood cells (leukocytes) and platelets (thrombocytes) are deposited in the middle, making up approx. 4% of the total volume. The lowest layer consists of red blood cells (erythrocytes), which clump together to form a blood clot and make up approx. 41%.

The platelet-rich plasma is drawn from the tubes and injected into the patient's body site to be treated, whereby the added growth factors induce tissue growth and improve healing.

Treatment should not be carried out in patients with tumors, during pregnancy and during therapy with Marcumar or similar blood thinners.

“PRP therapy is a sensible attempt to stimulate wound healing when other measures are not effective”
